When you order a Barbour Bedale or Beaufort waxed jacket, should you order one in your normal chest size or
should you order one in a bigger size to allow for clothing under the jacket or coat?
|
This is a question we get asked a lot and the answer is that you should measure loosely over the expanded
chest with normal light clothing on. Barbour clothing is made with the expectation that you will wear it
over normal clothing such as a sweater. So if your chest size is 42" you should order a 42" chest
size unless you want a really loose fit.
The Barbour Border waxed coat is sized to be worn over another jacket such as a suit jacket. So, if you were
a 42" you should order a 42" and you will be able to wear it over your sports jacket. However,
if you know you were going to wear it without another jacket underneath, you could order a 40" Border
and expect a comfortable fit.

Do Barbour make women's Beaufort, Bedale or Border jackets?
|
Not in the waxed cotton jackets. These are unisex and most women prefer the Bedale because it is the shortest of the three jackets.
The Border is worn mostly by men who also wear the Bedale as a riding jacket. If you are short, the Bedale is a great choice.

How to Measure
-
Chest - With arms at sides, measure around the upper body under your armpits and over the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
- Sleeve - With the arm bent at 90 degrees, place hand on hip. Start at the center of the back of your neck (backbone) and measure across the shoulder to the outside of your elbow and down to your wristbone.
- Hips - Stand with heels together, and measure around the fullest part of your hips.
